Will You Play With Me?

‘Will you play with me?’ says my three-year-old grandson on his birthday, as he held my hand and looked up at me, those bottomless dark eyes peering into mine as he held my hand. I enthusiastically agreed and off we went to explore the imagination of a child. Whatever the adults in the next room were discussing felt inconsequential to both of us. He delighted to have a fully attentive playmate while I delighted in the invitation to play like a child, letting the adults connect without us.  And so I owned this path, this conscious choice as we connected, laughed, played, imagined and giggled.

During my weekly meditation with a group of intentional women I found myself not invited to sit quietly, as is typical for all of us. Instead I was being invited to rise up, dance and flow throughout our meditation time. It was my path this morning, to own and embrace without apology, leaving me feeling freer and more connected.

My partner, Dave, stands by tending to our home, while I journey here and there, exploring and growing. He finds growth within our home, his own way. Last weekend I recognized how often I have overlooked and minimized his way. And I see anew there are many paths, all an option, and also feel the challenge of picking one while refraining from judging the choices of other paths. I show up more fully and humbly with him as my shadows of judgement are revealed.

Consider how you will play this year - what path is inviting you to move into the atypical way of being? Consider, will you play and explore and bring some shadows forth with me over this year? Join me for a spiritual journey, connecting with a community of like and differently minded beings, as we play and commiserate together. Our approach will be anchored in ancient spiritual tenants made fresh with direct application each month.
