The mindfulness/ meditation practice that will be used is called Yoga Nidra, and it is accessible to everyone. Nidra means ‘yogic sleep’ and it is said that 1 hour of yoga nidra is the equivalent of up to 4 hours of sleep! It guides you into deep levels of relaxation to reduce stress held in the body and mind.
Yoga Nidra is a technique where you enter ‘sleep’ states and yet are awake. This allows us to disengage from the thinking mind by entering the space between waking and sleeping. In this state we are able to deeply relax, rebalancing and releasing deep tension in the body. We also learn to interact with our thoughts differently, preventing them from overpowering the mind so we are able to remain in a relaxed state after Yoga Nidra is complete.
This meditation is practiced laying down in a comfortable position supported by props, and is appropriate for anybody. Reduced stress and anxiety, a relaxed state, increased clarity, and better sleep are a few of the benefits that may be experienced.
